MAC Prep + Prime Lip Review

I like to think that I’m immune to the sales pressure of the MAC artists, but my ownership of Prep + Prime Lip proves the contrary. I was at the counter purchasing a couple lippies when the artist asked me about Prep + Prime Lip. She then looked at me aghast when I told her that I don’t use a primer when I wear dark lipstick. Long story short… I bought it.

“A colour-free base to wear under lipstick. Adds light moisture, smoothes andrefines the lips. Improves the appearance of applied lip products.”

When applied MAC Prep + Prime Lip feels very similar to a lip balm. I like to let it sit on the lips for about two minutes before I apply lipstick on top. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase and it does what it says it does! I really like how smooth the lipsticks apply and how moisturized my lips feel underneath. I think this product is great for someone that wears bright/dark lips frequently or suffers from dry lips. I don’t think this primer extends the wear time, but it definitely makes wearing lipsticks much more comfortable.

I highly recommend this product and will definitely be repurchasing when I’m finished with this one!

I feel like there are primers for just about everything these days… do you think they are necessary?

Do you use a lip primer?

This sounds lovely hun. I have very dry lips and any help in this department would be great! I am using lip balm now but I find that it reduces the staying power a bit and I hope this one won't 🙂 Great review!

Hmm.. Never really thought about a lip primer. Sometimes I'll apply a bit of my face primer onto my lips. May have to have a look next time I'm in town! x

I never saw the point of something like this but I've heard so many people rave about it so I'd like to get it soon.I wear bright or dark lipstick a lot so I think I'd get use out of it.Thanks for sharing 🙂

I often wondered about this! I like to think that lip balms are essentially lip primers.. I swear by a face and lid primer, I just don't know if a lip primer appeals! xxx

I've never used a lip primer. When I worked as a make-up artist I did sometimes dab a little foundation on the models' lips first, but I never used actual primer.

Great post Sarah! I have used this product before and I agree it makes the lipstick more comfortable on the lips. I always use a really hydrating lip balm before my lipstick, it seems to do the trick.

I've never used a lip primer before, but this one seems interesting! It would've been nice if it did extend lasting powder though…. definitely something lip products junkies should check out XD

I've only tried benefits lip primer & didn't really like it, it gave my lips the concealer lip effect, this mac one does look & sounds much better! Those sneaky mac sales girls are to good at there job haha I often get persuaded to buy more than I went in for.

I think primers make a HUGE difference. For me anyway. I haven't tried any lip primers though!

I don't think I've heard of this yet! I know that Too Faced also has a lip primer but I'm still on the fence about them…waiting to hear more on what people think about the primers!

About a week ago, my lips began burning. I've always just used cheap lip balm. I began wearing MAC lipstick several months ago. I'm wondering if they're just so drying that my lips are starting to burn. Do you think this could help that?? I'm thinking I should give it a try because I'm NOT about to give up lipstick. I read your blog religiously, thanks!

I bought this and really like it.
Lipsticks don't last long on me.This makes them last a little longer, but what I really like is that it makes re-application so much easier. It keeps the lips smooth throughout the day.
